Joint Mobilisation

Are you feeling restricted in movement, stiff or inflexible? Joint Mobilisation is a Physiotherapy Treatment technique that improves range of motion to improve a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

Our body loves moving!

Our joints naturally slide and glide on one another to give us the freedom of movement we need. When we sit for hours on end or become less active, these joints can stiffen and cause you pain. Joint Mobilisation is one of my favorite techniques for improving movement and range of motion because clients walk out of our Physio session feeling “so much better”.

FAQ’S About Joint Mobilisation

  • Joint mobilisation is a manual therapy technique used by physiotherapists to treat joint restrictions. The treatment involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to a joint in order to increase the range of motion and can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions such as back pain, ankle stiffness and shoulder pain. I’m also considered a Noosa TMJ Physio so can treat jaw pain and clicking or refer on appropriately if conservative treatment of joint glides and massage doesn’t improve your jaw symptoms.

  • There are many benefits to having joint mobilisation as a Physiotherapy treatment. Some benefits include increased flexibility and range of motion, reduced stiffness, reduced pain and improved synovial fluid distribution within the joints.

  • Some people do not respond well or like joint manipulation which involves a high velocity manipulation which can result in a ‘pop’ or ‘click’ sound. Joint mobilisation is a far more gentle technique that offers pain relief and gives you longer lasting results. I may use both methods in your Physiotherapy treatment which we will discuss within the session.

  • If you have responded well to Joint Mobilisation within the treatment session, I will definitely give you an exercise or movement to continue at home to further help your mobility. It’s a team effort so follow my lead and you’ll be moving more freely in no time!
